We’re well into the middle of November, but there’s still time to celebrate the last days of fall. There are many ways to enjoy every part of the season, especially the fall colors and the great foods. Below are some fall activities that every member of the family can enjoy.
Fall Colors Photography
Is there anything prettier than the color of changing leaves? Many people travel all around the country just to take a look at the beautiful fall colors. We in Oklahoma are lucky enough to have them at home, so why not take advantage of it by taking some fall photoshoots with the whole family?
Put on some cozy sweaters and get all dolled up. Rake up a pile of leaves, get a pumpkin, and wait for just the right hint of sunlight. You can even bring your pets in to join the fun! Take the photos yourself or hire a professional photographer. One Oklahoma native is Jim Felder, who is no amateur when it comes to taking cute pet pictures.
Seasonal Foods
Fall is the perfect time to try out some recipes or bring out some old favorites. Personally, fall is synonymous with soup season around my house. Adding some extra spices also adds more flavor and heat– which no one is going to complain about. Some household favorites for this time of year include chili powder, cayenne pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon, and rosemary. If you haven’t tried it already, cinnamon and nutmeg (in small amounts) can also be tasty in savory meals, and of course, in pumpkin spice.
If you’re looking for something a little sweeter, then now is the perfect time to enjoy a cup of hot cocoa or to make some pumpkin pie. Baking is always a great family activity. This month, we’re putting some of Sweet Temptation’s Cocoa Bombs in our monthly subscription box.
Community Thanksgiving Dinner
November wouldn’t be the same without Thanksgiving to look forward to. Even if you can’t make dinner at home or go out to eat, you can still enjoy a Thanksgiving meal at the Nigh University Center at UCO, in Edmond. This meal is free to all members of the community. It takes place on Thanksgiving day, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Diners can also partake in a drive-through option if they want to take their meal home.
This event is also still (as of November 12) looking for volunteers to help cook and serve the meal. If you are interested, send a message to their Facebook page to get more details.
