Happy New Year to all of you! Let’s hope that 2023 will treat everyone better than 2022 did. This month, let’s take the time to appreciate the people in our lives. All relationships are special in their own way, whether they are familiar, platonic, or romantic. With Valentine’s Day coming up, there’s often more stress on romantic relationships, but other relationships are important too. Let’s look at how we can celebrate all of the positive relationships in our lives this year!

New Years Resolutions

A “Happy New Year” brings with it New Year’s Resolutions. People often pick things like making more money, losing more weight, and finding more love… “More” of something seems to be the common thread here. So, why not put more time into your relationships this year?

There are plenty of ways to put more time into your relationships. However, we can’t put more time into a day, so it’s important to make time for your loved ones. Try to set aside more time for the people who you care about. If needed, add activities to your calendar or to-do list. While this isn’t the most spontaneous way to do this, it does increase the chances that you will go through with your planned activity, and that matters more.

Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is marketed towards romance, but do you remember when you would bring little cards and treats to kids in your class? There was no romance there, just friendliness. Why does that need to change as you get older? Use the holiday to express your love to anyone who has a piece of your heart. Bring back little paper cards and candy. Last year, I brought kid’s Valentine’s cards to work and they were a big hit.

Don’t forget the snacks! One of our vendors, Dutch Addictions, has just partnered with us to bring great treats, including peanut brittle. Whether you are getting snacks or gifts for your loved ones, make sure to order them ahead of time. The holiday is coming up soon, and the last thing you want is to not have a gift to present when your loved ones do.

Love Languages

Lastly, there are many different ways to express your love. One commonly accepted theory is that there are five main love languages. These are quality time, gifts, words of affirmation, acts of service, and physical touch. Each person has one or more of these that they show their love with. They also commonly accept love in the same way that they show it. By knowing your loved one’s love language, you can better know how to show love in a way that they will understand. This can help to strengthen any kind of relationship.
