National Volunteer Week 2023

National Volunteer Week 2023 runs from April 16 – 22. This is the perfect time to volunteer your time or donate your money or old items for a good cause. Below are some resources you can use to celebrate National Volunteer Week this year.

Volunteer Opportunities

There is no one theme for National Volunteer Week, so you can do whatever moves you. There are hundreds of charitable volunteer groups in Oklahoma. Many (but not all) of them are run by religious organizations or colleges. Different volunteer groups will have different requirements for helping. Many groups will only allow adults to volunteer for liability reasons. You can find a list of hundreds of volunteer groups in Oklahoma by using this link. 

Charities

There are countless charities in Oklahoma and around the world that are sure to love your help. With charities, you can sometimes donate your time, but most take monetary donations. KidVision

In some cases, for both monetary and item donations, you can write off your donation on your income tax forms. This is just another incentive to donate! 

Donation Centers

Donation centers come in two main forms. Donation centers that resell items to make money to donate are some of the most common. These include Goodwill and several other thrift stores. The second kind are churches and places like food banks. These places will collect items directly for donation. This means that they do not sell the items you donate, but give them directly to someone who can benefit from the items. It is usually free to donate items. When donating clothes, make sure they are in good condition. When donating food, make sure the items are not expired.
