March is National Craft Month! This month, we are happy to celebrate all of our favorite crafters. Many of our vendors craft their own items, giving them a personalized touch. This is the perfect time to learn how to make your own crafts. If you are not a crafty person, then it’s also a great time to support your local artists and crafting businesses.

Paint Pottery

Throwing pottery is difficult and takes a lot of training to get right. Painting pottery, on the other hand, is something that just about anyone can do. Pottery painting businesses have become more popular in recent years. At these businesses, you pick out a piece of pottery, paint it at home or in the pottery studio, and then let the studio fire the pottery. About a week later, you will have a fully glossed and completed pottery piece.

There are many great pottery painting businesses in Oklahoma. These include the House of Clay in Oklahoma City, Color Me Mine in Norman, and Unpluggits Paint & Play in Edmond. Many of these businesses are also open to host parties and other group events. With any of these businesses, make sure to call ahead to make sure the business is accepting reservations or walk-ins.

Buy Locally-Made Accessories

Supporting local artists is one of the best ways to celebrate National Craft Month. There are a few ways that you can do this. Oklahoma has a bunch of craft shows going on this month and throughout the rest of the year. Going to these events allows you to meet artists and see their goods in person before you buy them.

Many artists also sell their wares online. We have several vendors that sell through our site, on Etsy, Facebook, and more. The internet makes it easier for artists to connect with people. Some of our favorite accessory makers include Sage & Elm Apothecary and My Enchanted Bowtique.

Learn Yarn Crafts

There are a variety of crafts that you can make out of yarn and string. These include sewing projects, embroidery, knitting, crocheting, and more. Because there are so many options, it seems like there is something for everyone. There are also projects for all skill levels.

If you want to learn how to make any of these crafts, then joining an old-fashioned knitting circle or another crafting group might be for you. Just like back in the day, you can meet up with others to work on your crafting projects together. Unlike the old days, you can find these people online. Meetup is a great website to use to find a crafting group near you.
