Late April and early May both come with events to remember and other events to celebrate. April 19th was the 27th anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing, in which 168 people lost their lives. Mother’s day is on May 8th this year.
Mother’s Day
Let’s start with the happiest of all these events– Mother’s Day. Mother’s Day always takes place on the second Sunday in May. So, you’ve got about a week (as of the posting of this article) to find something nice for your mom! Our shop has some great options that all moms will love, including luxurious skin-care products, spices, other great recipe materials, and other hand-crafted goods.
If mothers are looking for something to do with their children, then they can attend the free Concert Series, taking place at Scissortail Park in Oklahoma City. There will be live music and guests are encouraged to bring a family picnic!
Remembrance Ceremony
Each year on April 19, family and community members gather to remember those lives lost in the Oklahoma City bombing that took place at the Alfred P. Murrah Building. This year, students were encouraged to paint pictures of the event and its victims. This year, Philippe Etienne, France’s US Ambassador, read the keynote speech. Several Oklahoman government members also spoke at the ceremony. If you missed the ceremony, you can watch the recording below.
Memorial Marathon
Each year around the anniversary of the bombing, the city holds several runs and marathons in remembrance called the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon. However, not all of these races are actually marathons; there is also a 5K and half-marathon race. This year, the race took place on April 24. The winners of the races are listed below.
Men’s 5K — Luis Chavez
Women’s 5K — Natalie Duggan
Men’s Half-Marathon — Al Maeder
Women’s Half-Marathon — Kristi Coleman
Relay Race — Team Ok Runner
Men’s Marathon — Bryant Keirns
Women’s Marathon — Mckale Montgomery

April and May are busy months. We hope you enjoyed April and will go on to enjoy everything May has to offer!
