We hope you are having a Ho Ho Holiday filled with hot chocolate and candy canes! Outside, the air has turned crisper, and in a rare December occurrence, snow has already fallen! This can only mean one thing…the Christmas season is upon us! As school has come to a momentary and likely welcomed pause, many people are looking for fun ways to fill their days. Weโ€™ve helped by making a list of must-do activities to celebrate Christmas and ring in the New Year – and donโ€™t worry, we checked it twice.ย

If you have been wondering where to get last minute, contactless Santa pictures, look no further! Cabelaโ€™s and Bass Pro are both offering a Santaโ€™s Wonderland Experience! This includes FREE holiday activities including some fun craft kits! Check out the attached links to make a reservation and watch a quick video. This event is available through Christmas Eve.ย

There are also plenty of Christmas light displays to check out all around the metro! Here are a few of our favorites:ย

  • Luminance at Mitch Park in Edmond. Take an enchanted stroll through this 3D light display! It will be up until January 3rd and open every evening from 5-10 pm.ย
  • Chickasha Festival of Lights. This is one of Oklahomaโ€™s most noteworthy Christmas light experiences! Parking and entrance to walk or drive through the lights are free, but there is a charge associated with some of the activities like ice skating or the Ferris wheel. To see their hours, what food trucks are available, and costs, check out their FAQ page.ย
  • Yukon Christmas in the Park. This is one of our stateโ€™s longest Christmas light displays that you donโ€™t want to miss! Entrance is free, but if you want to ride the train to see the lights, itโ€™s a $3 per person charge. This display is also set to music via local radio stations! For info on where the train picks up and which radio stations to connect to, see their FAQ page.ย

An easy way to make this extra fun is to turn it into a scavenger hunt and take pictures with or of the different types of displays!ย

Donโ€™t forget to pack the car with lots of treats before you head out to see all the beautiful lights in our area. One of the best places to get hot chocolate is KatieBugs in Automobile Alley! They make lots of different flavors of homemade hot chocolate and even make their own giant marshmallows to top your drink off.

Looking ahead to 2021, many of us have some newfound resolutions to just get outside and move a little more than we did this last year while we were quarantined. Here are some great ways to kick off your New Year while enjoying some fresh air:ย

  • First Day Hike at Lake Thunderbird. There will be three hiking options including a stroller-friendly and accessibility-friendly option. This is great because everyone in the family is welcome-even your furriest family members, just make sure to keep them on a leash, please!ย
  • If Lake Thunderbird isnโ€™t close to you or you arenโ€™t quite ready for a hike, then try out the First Day Walk at Scissortail Park in downtown OKC. This event also starts at 11 and again, please make sure to have your dogs on a leash if you wish for them to join in on the fun!ย

Finally, a unique way to ring in the New Year is Capitol Hill Libraryโ€™s event, New Years Around the World. This event explores New Year traditions from cultures around the world. This event is free and held both online and in-person, but you must pre-register at the link above and there are limited seats left!ย

Holidays are about making memories and spending time with those you love, and we hope that this list has given you some creative ideas! Donโ€™t forget to support our nonprofit of the month, Single Parent Support Network, by making purchases on www.SampleOK.com!
