Summer is coming to a close, and for many families, that means preparing the kids to go back to school… which means back to school shopping. Lets take a look at some of the best sales and resources parents can take advantage of to make the process as painless as possible.ย

Backpacks, General School Supplies, and Haircuts

All children ages 6-12 are invited to attend the Annual Back2School Bash on August 8th and 9th from 9am-5pm at 1900 N. MacArthur Blvd, Oklahoma City. Tickets to the event vary from $25-75, and include a haircut, backpack filled with school supplies, hair care supplies, a raffle ticket, snacks, and unlimited access to bounce houses!ย

While this is not free like the other charities in this article, it is a great value for everything your child receives. You can purchase tickets online here. Other vendors will have items available for purchase as well. Even if your child does not need a haircut, the activities alone can make for a great family-friendly day.

Clothes

The Sharing Tree is a Central Oklahoma-based charity that provides clothes and other household supplies to families in need. This service is 100% free, but people who want to use the service must be referred ahead of time. This ensures that the families who most need this service will have access to it. Families who want to join this program can fill out the form on this page to apply.ย

This charity is always looking for volunteers and donations. If you are fortunate enough not to need this service, consider donating to them instead.ย

Gym Shoes/Sporting Goods

Lastly, not all kids need sporting goods, but when a kid does, it can get expensive. One of the charities we work with, Cleats for Kids (C4K) helps by donating cleats, gym shoes, and other sports equipment to both individuals and sports teams in need.ย

To get gear, families and coaches can check out the Locker Room at 720 W Wilshire Blvd, Oklahoma City. The Locker Room is open by appointment only, which you can make by calling (405-418-4889). Some of the equipment is used, while others are new.

C4K is also accepting donations, both in equipment and cash. You can donate funds and find locations to donate your used sports equipment on their website.ย

Preparing for going back to school can be expensive, but it doesnโ€™t have to be. If youโ€™re willing to take the time to check out these free or reduced-price options, then you are sure to save a lot of money this school year!
