St. Patrick’s Day will be on March 17th this year. Since that is a Thursday, many holiday celebrations will be taking place on March 12th instead. The holiday was originally meant to celebrate St. Patrick’s converting many Irish people to Christianity hundreds of years ago. The holiday became more widespread as Irish Immigrants moved to the United States. The holiday celebrations shifted focus to Irish nationalism and celebrating Irish heritage around this time. No matter why you celebrate, there are many events going on in Oklahoma that both adults and families can enjoy this St. Patrick’s Day.

Parades

There are a couple of parades going on around the state on the 12th. This parade will take place at 10 a.m. in Oklahoma City, on Stockyards Main City Street. This parade will be appropriate for all ages. Currently, there are no plans for a parade on St. Patrick’s Day itself.

Food and Drink

Several businesses around the state, whether especially for the holiday or not, are selling treats and foods to match the holiday. One of our vendors, The Fudge and Snack People, will be selling both key lime and mint chocolate fudge, both of which are dyed green.

Most of the food and drink events for St. Patrick’s Day are strictly adult-only (21+), as bars are the main hosts. Some of the bars throwing parties or other events on St. Patrick’s Day include the Frenzy Brewing Company (Edmond), Sean Cumming’s Irish Pub (Oklahoma City), and Boondocks Tavern (Enid). Many of these bars will also have live music playing for most of the evening.

Miscellaneous Events

There are a couple of great kid’s events happening on St. Patrick’s Day. The MetropolitanMetropolitian Library System in Oklahoma City is hosting a Lucky Leprechaun Lego event for kids ages 5-12. This event takes place from 2-3:00 p.m. Guests must register for this event. Parents must stay with their children throughout this event.

If you love crafts, then you can attend the Customize Your Monogram event at Painting with a Twist in Oklahoma city from 7-9:00 p.m. Anyone ages 14+ (ages 14-17 must be accompanied by an adult) is welcome to sign up. Prices range pay the size of the craft completed. If you like the design of monogrammed wood, but are not artistically inclined, consider checking out art from our vendor, Blue Birch Laser Design, whose work is similar, but is handcrafted for you, rather than you needing to handcraft it.

As it’s clear to see, there are many events for people of all ages. No matter who you want to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, you are sure to find something fun to do!
