labor day

Labor Day and Labor Day weekend are coming up quickly? Do you have plans made for the holiday? If you are still looking for something to do, then you might want to check out some of these events that have free entry and are suited for the whole family; they are hosted in various spots in Oklahoma.

Friday, September 3

Each Friday, the town of Paseo hosts its First Friday Gallery Walk. During these events, over 25 businesses and 80 more artists display their art outside, rain or shine. Each of the displays is within walking distance from each other, so it’s easy to see them all in one day. You can even bring your pets! While there, you can buy art, enjoy a snack from a food truck, and meet like-minded people.

Saturday, September 4

The Blues Ball takes place in Medicine Park, from Friday to Sunday. Live blues music is played throughout the town all weekend. Anyone who visits can listen for free. However, the town is requesting that all visitors adhere to the state’s COVID-19 guidelines; this mainly means wearing a mask at all times (unless eating), especially if you are not vaccinated. For more information, check out their Facebook event page.

Another free art event is the Crystal Z Cambell: Flight exhibit, taking place in the Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center in Oklahoma City, from 11-6. Free tickets to this event need to be reserved in advance, which you can do on the museum’s website. This event is great for people who love history. The main event commemorates the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, done in an artistic style.

Monday, September 6

Each year, Henryetta hosts one of Oklahoma’s biggest free Labor Day celebrations. The celebration takes place at various venues on and around Henryetta’s main street. One of the biggest attractions is their yearly parade that features floats, bands, and more. There are games for kids, a car and tractor show for adults, and a free fireworks display for anyone to enjoy at the end of the day. You can optionally join the BBQ contest. If you want an edge on the competition, check out some of our summer BBQ sauces and rubs made by fellow Oklahomans.

With so many diverse events going on, there is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy this Labor Day weekend. So, what are you waiting for? Get ready for your holiday weekend now!
