Summer seems to go by so quickly, so it only makes sense to try to make the most of it. Even if your family is on a tight budget, there are many summer activities that you can do to bring a little extra sunshine to your summer– even if the sun is not out.ย

Start a Family Garden

Whether you have a yard or not, you can start a small garden to grow good or flowers in. Many of our vendors, like Gramโ€™s Kitchen who makes jams and salsas, grow or make their good foods right here in Oklahoma. If they can do it, why not give it a try yourself?ย

It is always up to you how large your garden is. From a large plot in the ground to a few pots on the windowsill, growing anything can be rewarding. If youโ€™re looking to keep the project as inexpensive as possible, buy some seeds and pots from the local dollar store. If you have a bit more to spend, get some fertilizer and plant starters from your local plant nursery. No matter which option you take, after a few weeks, you should start to see the literal fruits of your labor.

Go to the Beach

While Oklahoma is landlocked on a map, many visitors to this great state would be surprised to find out that it has its fair share of lovely lakes and beaches. Lake Eufaula is the biggest lake in Oklahoma and is entirely free to visit. This beach has everything a family could need, from miles of beachline to volleyball nets and picnic areas. Some of the other best beaches in Oklahoma that any family can spend the day at including Grand Lake near Langley, Lake Murray in Ardmore, and Lake Texoma in Kingston.ย

Learn a New Craft

Not every day is going to be sunny, but that doesnโ€™t mean the day needs to be boring. One thing that a family can do together or separately is learning a new craft. There is always something that any age group can try. Kids can color or paint, teenagers can work on more complicated crafts like making jewelry, and adults can play around with scents and oils to make their own candles or soaps. Many of our vendors, like Boy Mom Vibes, started their business by making items in their own homes. Soon enough, their hobby became a new source of income. Who knows? Maybe youโ€™ll learn how to make something new and exciting and get to do the same!
