June is National Pride Month. The holiday is a uniquely American one, originating in 1994 as Gay and Lesbian Pride Month. Since then, Pride Month has expanded to celebrate all LGBT+ people. There are no โofficialโ ways to celebrate Pride. Go to a parade or celebrate at home. Below are some events that are happening during Pride Month in Oklahoma.
Oklahoma City Pridefest
The Oklahoma City Pridefest is a weekend-long event that begins on Friday, June 23rd. The doors open at 4 p.m. and there are various events going on all weekend. Scissortail Park will have two stages and use the event pavilion to host various musical acts, poetry, and more.ย
Along with all of this, the Oklahoma City Pridefest will have many vendors, bars, and sports that adults can participate in. Unfortunately, none of our vendors are scheduled to be there, but this will also give you a chance to find some new ones you might like.ย So, stop on by. There is something for everyone who wants to celebrate pride!
Tulsa Pride
The Tulsa Pride event is a little more low-key than the Oklahoma Pirdefest but still has a lot of fun events. Tulsa Pride starts off with the Rainbow Run on Friday, June 23rd at 7 p.m. at the Guthrie Green.
The real fun starts on Saturday at noon with the beginning of the Pride Festival. That will be followed up with the annual Pride Parade at 6 p.m. There will also be a surprise guest headliner! The festival will continue on Sunday from noon until 5 p.m. where there will be another surprise guest headliner. Of course, there will be plenty of vendors at the festival to sell food and items.
Love is Love Pride Olympicsย
Lastly, Seminole State College will be hosting the Pride Olympics on Saturday, June 24 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The name may make it seem intense, but really, itโs just a bunch of fun picnic games. Sign up for an egg toss, race, disc golf, and other similar games. The event will also have lunch, special speakers, and a pride presentation. This should be a pretty relaxed event, so if you donโt like big crowds, then this one might be perfect for you.
