As of the writing of this article, Halloween is only a week away! If you haven’t found a great costume yet, then now is the time to get moving! Below are three great Halloween costume ideas based on the great state of Oklahoma that can be worn by children or adults.
Cowboy
Cowboys play an important part in Oklahoma’s history. Even today, Oklahoma City is home to the National Cowboy & Western History Museum. What better way to celebrate that part of Oklahoma’s history and culture than to don an authentic cowboy look? Put on some cowboy boots and a hat to complete your look.
The museum is also home to clothing worn by television cowboys– and girls. They have the outfit worn by Barbara Stanwyck in The Big Valley. Take inspiration from this and consider dressing up as your favorite TV or movie cowboy.

Horse
Did you know that the University of Oklahoma’s mascots are horses? That’s where this idea comes from. These two mascots are named Boomer and Sooner. They are cute (not-so) little tan horses that show up at each one of the university’s football games. Add one of the school’s jerseys to show some school spirit.

Girl Scout
The first Girl Scout cookie was sold in Oklahoma! That’s a good enough reason as any to dress up as a Girl Scout for Halloween. If you’re feeling extra creative, try dressing up as your favorite cookie. Personally, Thin Mints or the Lemonades have to be a top contender for favorite, but their samosas are also crazy popular. Who knows? Maybe your costume will even earn you a few actual cookies as treats.
Whether you are young or old, Halloween is a time to let loose and dress up. Try one of these suggestions for yourself or for your kiddos. Just remember to tell your friends where you got the idea.
